it's not an easy business, probably one of the most stressful jobs any person could have... you are like a glorified punching bag most of the time, and more often-than-not, you as the agent are always to blame. it's a myth that letting agents earn a crazy amount of money... because they don't. just to start with, you will never be the only letting agent marketing a property... no, but possibly, one of 50... soooo... 49 less chances of renting the apartment. not to mention all the effort, you single handedly put into the property with advertising and viewings and paperwork... it gets forgotten by either the potential tenant or the owner. the owner will always be trying to cut down your commission, which to start with is not nearly enough for the effort and the tenant will always be looking for the best deal.

we don't earn a salary. it's our cars and our cell phones. our weekends and our administration. if we manage an apartment we deal with every complaint on behalf of the owner and it can be extremely draining. fussy tenants, tight owners, late payments, burst geysers, blocked drains... glamorous doesn't feature on any level.

yet everyday you put on a happy face, get dressed to the nines and pretend like everything is right with the world. there are so many agents out there that do give the industry a bad name and sadly, it is because of them that the handful that wish to do a job well get taken to the cleaners more often than not and are looked upon as just as bad as the one before and the one that will follow... money makes the world go around but i hate the stuff...

i just want to live on an island and be loved to death by some amazing, salt-of-the-earth man who isn't always worrying the grass is greener somewhere else *sigh... clearly too much to ask
